EDPD 591 Foundations of Literacy and Numeracy
When I first began this course, I knew it would be a positive learning experience, as it would build a foundation on which my skills, confidence and passion for teaching and learning could grow upon. Throughout this course, I felt a range of emotions, as my thought path changed directions in some aspects in regards to teaching learning exceptionalities. I have worked with students with learning exceptionalities in the past, and utilized strategies and tools while working with these individuals, but my world was rocked and shaken to the core (in a very, very good way) when I realized I had been limiting myself in regards to the amazing resources available to teachers today. I was sent on a journey of discovery, and still am on this wonderful educational journey that is slowly building my "learning toolbelt" and helping me develop more confidence with the skill set I have attained both in this course, and in the classroom. I only hope this contribultion to lifelong learning will help me become the best support I can be for struggling individuals.
I believe we are in the most rewarding career of our lives, as the students benefit from our encouragement and dedication to the profession, and we benefit from witnessing an increase in the success rate of our students. I know the challenges we face only help us develop our skills more and more, and to try new strategies in order to create safe learning environments for our students.
